Welcome to the 911 Telecommunicator Basic Training Program!
This 6‑week, 240‑hour course will introduce you to the essential skills needed to become a Public Safety Telecommunicator for Lancaster County. You’ll learn how to answer 911 calls, use the CAD system, communicate on the radio, and follow emergency protocols for police, fire, and EMS incidents.
Training includes classroom instruction, hands‑on practice, guided online lessons, and realistic scenarios. You’ll complete activities in Moodle to reinforce what you learn in class, including short quizzes, interactive simulations, and daily knowledge checks.
By the end of this program, you will be able to:
• Take and process 911 and non‑emergency calls
• Enter and update incidents in CAD
• Dispatch police, fire, and EMS units
• Use radio systems clearly and safely
• Apply structured protocols for medical, fire, and law incidents
• Manage high‑stress calls with confidence and professionalism
Successful completion of this course is required before moving into on‑the‑job training in the Communications Center.
